Although the recent legislation for the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 did not have enough support in congress to pass, the greater Washington DC area is making a clear statement that it wants to be the next Silicon Valley.  The Federal government, its defense contractors and hardware/software manufactures from around the globe are forming alliances to build better castles and dungeons within the Clouds.  This is to establish a new and improved protocol for protecting our national security interests and our deepest secrets from miscreants.  The recruitment, education and mobilization of cyber forces will be supported and funded by the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and the National Security Agency. This stance sends a clear message to the world that we taking our defenses to the next level.

New programs are being funded that will give our country a solid foundation for recruiting the best cyber warriors and providing the latest training for them to be skilled in the art of cyberwarfare.  Investments will be made for research and development by our cutting-edge defense and industrial base contractors as well as small businesses to gain situational awareness and predictive intelligence on our adversaries.  This will allow us to spin the chess board and take even stronger defensive postures and where appropriate, arm our Commander-in- Chief with the cyber weaponry he needs in the event that our country has to go on the offensive.

DC, Reston and Columbia, Maryland comprise the next technology hotbed and will be focused on global Cybersecurity leadership and less on social media.  Security hardware and software manufactures will continue to invest heavily in the DC area knowing that huge national security missions and implications depend on it.  As a citizen, I applaud this commitment and focus toward cyber defense.  As a technology professional, I see it as an absolute critical aspect of our defense program.  We need adequate rules and programs to better operate within the evolving aspects of Web 4.0.  This new ecosystem already has cyberwarfare being waged within it.  As the security evolution continues to unfold in this highly focused geographic area, it will further demonstrate why Silicon Valley is moving East.
